Artist's Comments

The third piece in my Gesture series, Birth represents the creation of something from others. Just as the two hands spring forth from the palm of the middle hand, so to does that hand arise from the bottom hand.
My brother sees this piece as my rendition of the personal birth, or rebirth more precisely, of my artwork. During my years in graduate school I didn't devote much time to making art, however, it is now an integral part of my life, and growing more and more.

i think that your use of shadows is just amazing...its not that its hard to do..it just takes so much work...and the form of the hands is just perfect

WOW....WOWWWW.
Yea, the shading is amazing, the hands look disturbingly realistic :P I just wonder what was going on in your mind at the time...this is great.

It is really weird to describe what was going through my mind. I had recently finished "Life" and was needing to finish a piece in a couple of days. I was racking my brain trying to think of what "Death" would look like and just couldn't figure it out. So I started thinking of other concepts to draw, and birth came to mind. I immediately knew what it would be, even though I couldn't and still can't exactly explain it. But it flowed out and I am very happy with it.

Wow, I really admire how you're able to pull things out of your head. That's something I've been REALLY wanting to do lately - but I'm afraid I don't have an imagination...or I lack creativity...or I'm just stupid..one of the three :D lol

Amazing concept and execution, well drawn. :+fav:

Great idea and intensity in this piece. I really like how it's just simple black and white, and it captures the agony and joy of birth.
