So as you can see, when right-handed, it is essential to work from upper left to bottom right when working with pastels. And either you can do it in horizontal or vertical slices, I am pretty much progressing in vertical shafts.
For this day, I worked on the background of the piece a little more. Using Orthanc from LotR as my study, I put a smooth surface on the top of the tower, and added some lines etched into the surface. I also finished the first light source of the piece, his right hand glowing with power. Compared to the last day, this one was a little less detail, but still took some time.
I had some troubles with the light source, because I had colored part of the tower floor first, so every time I tried to color the brightest, whitest part of the magical flare, I couldn't achieve pure white. I eventually got out my Sennelier pastel sticks, because if you ever need to put color over something, that brand will do it. However, it comes off uneven, and clumped, which I didn't like. Thankfully I figured out that if you erase all the pigment from a section, you can use just a regular General's White Charcoal or a Faber-Castell Pitt Soft White to get a perfect white color.
And of course, the magic is tinged with a bit a blue.
The composition will change just slightly. The perspective on the gun is a little off, but I like the angle on the gun. So I am going to trace it, scan it, and reproject it onto the canvas and move it... oh about 2-4 inches to the right. Sometimes I wish I worked digitally. This would be so much easier to do.
yeah, the feel of the piece, its real, tangible, you can touch it, destroy it. now adays lots of things are CG so its a nice break to see some real stuff ^^

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
