Day Final

Done. I have finally finished the piece. At least it didn't take an entire year, haha. Changes since the last post... I went in on the front reflection and added some other lines and highlights. The front just wasn't bright enough.

After talking to some people who still didn't understand the "crown" part of the tower, I got rid of it. It is gone, nothing more. This gave me more space in the background to provide references for where this is. I added more to the perimeter wall surrounding the tower (think Isengard layout). I also added some windows to the perimeter wall and guard tower to give a sense of distance and scale. Light cast from these windows can be seen on the ground inside the perimeter.

Finally I finished the ground behind the wizard, which provided a nice contrast to the white light on the opposite corner.

Well, there you have it. The diary is complete. Please let me know if I should do something like this with my next few pieces. Or if it was just too boring to see how ridiculously slow I work on art.

I say? Is that pistol a Fedwick-29 6-Chambered Handheld Spellcannon, or a Dargon-17 6-Chambered Golemslayer?

Hahaha, that is the most hilarious wizard I've ever seen! Lol, somehow it reminds me of Harry Dressden.

This is really good! I can't remember if I saw you working on it at MTAC '09 or at Dragon*con. As for the time it took, I'll just quote miracle Max from the Princess Bride "You rush a miracle and you get rotten miracles"

Dude, your work here with light and texture is absolutely breathtaking. His nose and beard in particular are awe-inspiring. absolutely beautiful.

I believe this is where we enter the following statement:

"Because even wizards can run outta spells."

Although I'll say that the name of the painting is perfect for the piece. I love the detail. Maybe one day I can almost get this good.

Well, it goes without saying that this is really awesome. Funny, anachronistic concept and great painterly detail. It looks like art that would be on an LP cover that I would come across while browsing the rack and probably buy without further consideration about the music. The only thing that bothers me is the blank eyeballs. It kind of de-humanizes the character (erm, de-maiaizes?) and takes away some of the humorous element. But that's a nitpick. Excellent work!

Are you aware that :iconmastersynteks: has used your image?

rediculously slow.. hmm, I think not. not really anyway,
because you can't rush a good thing , and the final product
is very detailed and well done :)

you've done an excellent job here , though he's not like
the typical wizards I am used to seeing , instead of a staff
or wand he's holding a gun / pistol .. which is very odd to me
but none the less , I like him anyways :D

It's finally done! :D I seriously was excited to see the final piece :3 It is GORGEOUS! :3 I really really love it.

As for progression as you work your way through art pieces, I say, go for it! :D I love to see how people put their pieces together, and it might give you more of a reason to get them done faster. :P Works for me, anyways XD
